Doncaster Rovers Soccer Club has been one of the prime soccer clubs in the municipality of Manningham for over 40 years. Currently the club has over 25 teams and 350 plus players. I, personally, have been involved with the club in many capacities and have volunteered many hours to its development, as I see it provides invaluable, positive sporting and social outcomes, for our young population in the area.

One of the club’s core values is to create opportunities for our youth to participate in sport regardless of race, gender and playing ability. With the support of Bendigo Bank, we have been involved for the past four years in the organization of community based soccer programs with Onemda and Heatherwood special schools, as we attempt to outreach and embrace as many of our young people as possible.

As part of our engagement and involvement with the community, Doncaster Rovers contributed to the recent “Respect” Youth Interfaith soccer tournament held at Anderson Park on the 1st of March 2015. Apart from offering our facilities, our club was and will continue being extremely supportive of this event, as we feel it encompasses our core values and those of the Manningham community. I wish to highlight the uniqueness and importance of this event as part of our ongoing support and integration of young people from different cultural beliefs and backgrounds.

The event provides an excellent opportunity for young people to engage and compete with others in a friendly, supportive and inclusive manner. The time contributed by the many organizations and individuals is a testament to their strong belief in the value of this tournament. We, as a club, would fully endorse the future of this event and would very much support it being a regular event in the Manningham calendar.

Sincerely,

John Palomares – President, Doncaster Rovers Soccer Club
