A message from the President

Anthony MoutafisDear life members, parents, players and friends of the Doncaster Rovers family,

The club enters its 49th year since inception with a positive, forward thinking and confident attitude and looks forward to the year in eager anticipation.

The club continues to grow its junior ranks and after a positive and effective preseason for all teams, held it first junior preseason tournament at Anderson Park in many years. Played over two weekends, clubs from as far as Brighton to the west and Berwick to the south entered across the U12 to U18 age groups. All clubs that entered found it an effective and well organised event and have already committed to entering again next year when the event is held. It was fabulous seeing upwards of 250-300 people using and enjoying the clubs facilities and pitches. Many thanks to our sponsors, Victorian Financial Solutions.

The seniors have come together well under the coaching of George Moutafis (Club Life Member) and look forward to 2016 with the aim of bouncing out of State 2 SE straight back to State 1. In addition, the senior women will contest State 1 and are looking in good form under their coach Ivan Jurinovic. Moving forward, the club has a short term desire to get back to State 1 and consolidate there with medium term ambitions including getting into the NPL. We know this is an expensive and complex exercise but we need to aim high and become one of, if not the, preeminent football club in the east of Melbourne.

In the background, the committee has successfully ordered and received from our new supplier PUMA all senior and junior strips and these will be in players hands well before the first game of the season. This is a great improvement on previous years and parents and players will love the new full Home strip, full Away strip, jacket and bag. In addition, the committee is planning a number of social events through the year and other fund raisers with the plan to enter our 50th year debt free and in the best financial shape the club has been in for a number of years. We need all of our players, parents, friends and members to help the committee and the club by helping us through volunteering, attending events and in any other way you can help us.

The club also continues to foster and grow relationships with a diverse group of community and cultural groups including through our successful and continuing Onemda program, supporting the Blind Football League, Hiring the club facility in conjunction with the Manningham Council to the KSHATRIYA SOCIETY OF MELBOURNE over the Easter period and through donations of old boots, jerseys and other playing gear to indigenous community players in Northern and Western Australia. The club is now a clear leader in our local area in the engagement and support of community, voluntary and ethnic groups from a wide and diverse cross section of our community.

On the subject of next year’s 50th anniversary, the committee will start planning this important event from May this year. A special subcommittee will be tasked to make this a memorable, appropriate and successful event. Anyone willing to put their hands up to assist are encouraged to help.

Please help the club by attending any senior and reserve matches and junior games, supporting social events and any fundraisers. The club can only be as good and successful as the help, participation and support provided by everyone associated with the club.
